Hauck responds to 2025 State of the State address

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Roger Hauck, R-Mt. Pleasant, issued the following statement Wednesday evening after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2025 State of the State address:

“If the governor is genuine about her goals for Michigan moving forward, I am willing to take a seat at the table, but we’ve heard this positive message of bipartisanship before — while the results that followed were vastly different.

“Under the governor’s partisan leadership, our state budget has grown 40% while there is still no long-term road funding plan, kids are falling behind in school, and the size of state government continues to grow at the expense of Michigan taxpayers.

“I think the governor missed an opportunity to highlight what we can accomplish by cutting wasteful spending and focusing on responsible budgeting — the default shouldn’t always be going back to taxpayers for more.

“While I hope some of her proposed tax increases never see the light of day, I think there was some good to take from the speech regarding the safety of our kids, improving education outcomes and tackling the tough issues that mean the most to Michigan families.”
